A LARGER SPACE WILL ALLOW JACKRABBIT FILLY MORE ROOM TO PLAY

When the building at 1083 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston, became available, restaurateurs Shuai and Corrie Wang jumped on the opportunity to claim it as a new home for their busy Chinese American restaurant, Jackrabbit Filly (4628 Spruill Avenue). “We’re looking at a very large restaurant now, but it’s exciting because I think we outgrew the current Jackrabbit space in the second week we were open,” says Shuai.

The Jackrabbit Filly team will have more room to experiment with a larger dining area and kitchen. “We can finally do all the things that Jackrabbit couldn’t do because we were limited by space,” says Corrie.

The couple says they are bringing back lunch with a Wednesday through Saturday schedule for lunch and dinner. Sunday will still offer dim sum brunch, but Jackrabbit Filly now has the space for traditional dim sum carts they’ve already ordered from Beijing.

The current Spruill Avenue space will remain open until the kitchen equipment needs to be moved over to Montague Avenue. The Wangs hope they will only need to shut down for around a week. The new space is expected to open in late October or early November.

“I feel like it’s giving us a new life being able to do all these things that we wanted to do with our baby,” says Corrie, “Sometimes I can barely walk into the current space because it’s so tight. We can’t wait to have a more breathable, happier place.”

Jackrabbit Filly opened at the end of 2019, following years of the Wangs running cult-favorite food truck Short Grain. Last year, the couple opened King BBQ (2029 Carver Avenue) to much acclaim, including an Eater Carolinas award.
