KATO TAPPED AS ‘ONE TO WATCH’ BY WORLD’S 50 BEST

Ahead of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants announcement, Los Angeles’s Kato was tapped for the One To Watch Award. According to 50 Best, the award recognizes, “a rising star restaurant in the global hospitality scene.” While it’s not a spot on the prestigious list, it does signify that the body of voters sees the potential of the restaurant to make it onto the list in the coming years.

This isn’t the first major recognition for Kato, and its chef Jon Yao, which garnered a Michelin star in 2019. The fine dining destination at the Row is known for its thoughtful tasting menu that draws on Yao’s Taiwanese heritage, paired with cocktails from bar director Austin Hennelly.

Food smells may be an unlikely pollutant

A new report from The Los Angeles Times explores how cooking emissions, including smells, may be contributing to poor air quality. The studies are in development though, and the full effects of these compounds are still under investigation from scientists.

Wine and art at The BLVD

The BLVD in Beverly Hills is partnering with Faust Wines on Thursday, May 9 for a special dinner and art experience. An art show will showcase work from Mikael Kennedy (King Kennedy Rugs), Savannah Yarborough and Ash Owens (SAVAS), and Cody Wellema (Wellema Hat Co). Following the show, a four course dinner paired with wines will be served. Reservations are available through OpenTable.

Burger nights at Agnes

Pasadena’s Agnes is now hosting a burger night every Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The menu will feature a double Reuben patty melt with melted Raclette and fried honey mustard pickles, on crispy slices of rye sourdough.

An update on the Patrick’s Roadhouse fundraiser

Fans of Patrick’s Roadhouse have rallied around the restaurant after it announced its closure. A GoFundMe, which was set up to help the restaurant reopen, had raised over $66,000 as of May 9. The fundraiser’s goal is $250.000.
