NEW MONTAVILLA BAR REPLICANT WANTS TO BECOME THE RECORD NERD’S WATERING HOLE

Montavilla locals will soon be able to nurse a beer or a glass of Mexican wine while they shop for records. Replicant Bar and Bottle Shop will open alongside the new location of City Noise Records, with an extensive wine and beer selection, nonalcoholic cocktails, and listening stations for folks to drink and listen.

City Noise Records owner Gianpiero Milani originally opened his punk-focused record store in November 2021, but he knew he wanted to find a larger space. While he and his partner, Lydia Crumbley, began shopping for new locations, he pitched the idea of opening a bar alongside the store, to make it more of a space for record nerds to connect. “He wanted to grow the community around [the record store],” Crumbley says. “We’re making it more of a hangout.”

Milani and Crumbley landed on a location on Northeast Glisan near 70th, which had two separate rooms with a shared outdoor area. One side will become the new City Noise, a larger space compared to the current Broadway shop, while the other will become a lowkey bar and bottle shop with 10 taps and around 40 seats. While City Noise has a brighter, red-and-blue punk vibe, Replicant will be a little more muted, with dark wood notes and darker greens, blacks, and browns. The bar’s name is also a reference to Blade Runner, so fans may find a few subtle references around the room — however, Crumbley is quick to specify it’s not a theme bar. “We want it to feel like an old bar,” Crumbley says. “We have a lot of used furniture.”

The taps at Replicant will primarily focus on Pacific Northwestern beers, but not exclusively; the cooler will also have several cans of beer or cider to drink there or take home. Milani is Italian, so the wine selection will always include some Italian wines, as well as a broader international selection of wines from places like Spain and Mexico. “We like natural wine, but we’re not going to limit ourselves to only what we like,” Crumbley says. “We want to have a diverse selection.”

The bar will always have a good selection of zero-proof options, including nonalcoholic beer and wine as well as bottled and house-made cocktails. In terms of food, options will stay pretty limited, with things like almonds, olive, vegan cheese boards, and soft pretzels, baked just down the street at Fressen.

Crumbley hopes to open Replicant and the new City Noise Records in May at 7033 NE Glisan Street.
