The Danny Meyer-backed Salt and Straw, the Portland-based ice cream shop, is opening its first locations in New York City this summer, at 540 Hudson Street in the West Village, 360 Amsterdam Avenue, on the Upper West Side, the Strong Buzz reported. Salt and Straw was first opened in 2011, by Kim and Tyler Malek, known for its innovative scoop flavors like buttered mashed potatoes and gravy. Ahead of the opening, the team will host pop-ups. There’s one on Thursday, April 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. where Salt & Straw will serve passionfruit yuzu mochi donut and whey curd flavor at Brooklyn Brewery. This will be followed by a preview outside their forthcoming West Village location, on Friday, April 26, where, from 1 to 3 p.m. Every scoop is a dollar, a fundraiser for the nonprofit Hot Bread Kitchen.
Chinatown Doyers Street staple Tasty Hand Pulled Noodles has opened an additional, larger restaurant at 106 Bayard Street, at Baxter Street, in Chinatown, local publication Bayard Bugle reports.
Opening in Jersey City’s Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood, the bigger sibling to charming BYOB Corto, the Roxy opens on April 30. Housed at 66 Monitor Street, at Maple Street, it’s on the ground level of a luxury development called Starling. Partners include Drew Buzzio, whose family started the legendary salumi-producer, Salumeria Biellese, and the chef of Corto, Matt Moschella. Textbook, a Fort Greene cafe started by former owners of a yearbook printing business, will expand with a sibling bakery at 874 Hancock Street, at Howard Avenue, down the street from Cuts & Slices, Brownstoner reports. There will be a subterranean bar attached called Understudy.
