RESTAURANTS ACROSS THE CAROLINAS COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN

Following an Israel Defense Forces attack in Gaza that killed seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers, restaurants across the United States are stepping up to raise money for the humanitarian organization — including several in North and South Carolina.

Benevolent Spirits, a hospitality fundraising group out of Asheville, is coordinating efforts to raise money for WCK. They have asked participating bars and restaurants to designate a cocktail or non-alcoholic beverage for the cause, and when ordered, the establishment will donate $1 to WCK. For example, Chai Pani and Botiwalla will donate $1 for every mango lassi ordered at its various locations.

Participants in the Carolinas include Chai Pani (Asheville), Botiwalla (Asheville and Charlotte), Cúrate (Asheville), La Bodega (Asheville), Ajja (Raleigh), Chubby Fish (Charleston), the Montford Rooftop Bar (Asheville), Soprana Rooftop Cucina (Asheville), The Crunkleton (Chapel Hill), Twisted Laurel (Asheville), Asheville Brewing Co. (Asheville), Posana (Asheville), High Five Coffee (Asheville), Seabird (Wilmington), Chestnut (Asheville), and Corner Kitchen (Asheville).

World Central Kitchen became the first organization to successfully send aid to Gaza by ship when the Open Arms ship, carrying 200 tons of food, reached the area on March 15. Chef José Andrés founded the nonprofit organization in 2010 after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti.

The Benevolent Spirits fundraising efforts will run through May 12. Additional restaurants can sign up here.
