YOU DON'T NEED TO BE AT A RACE TRACK TO ENJOY THIS CLASSIC MINT JULEP

Mint juleps are often only brought up around the time of the Kentucky Derby, and I think that’s a crying (neighing?) shame! Not only does the classic frosty cup and minty flavor provide a cooling freshness on a hot day, it’s also one of the best low-effort cocktails out there. It's only 3 ingredients (if you don’t count ice), and the prep couldn’t be simpler. My mint julep recipe is the perfect summer cocktail to shake up your bartending game—keep reading below for everything you need to know:

How To Make A Mint Julep

Ingredients

Simple syrup: You can use store-bought, but homemade simple syrup is just too easy to make. Make it for this cocktail, then store it to save in countless others (hello, mojitos).

Mint leaves: Use a handful of fresh mint leaves here—the amount of purely up to taste and preference! If you’re a major mint fan, you could maaaybe take it a little further by infusing your simple syrup with some mint, but if you do a good enough job muddling, your drink should be plenty minty.

Bourbon: Use your favorite bourbon here that you enjoy drinking, or take a look at Delish’s favorite bourbon brands if you’re looking to try something new.

Instructions

This cocktail starts with the signature glass. A mint julep is traditionally served in a silver or tin julep cup, but you can really serve this in whatever you please. If you don’t have the classic silver or tin julep cup, you can opt for a bronze Moscow mule mug or a rocks glass.

Pour your simple syrup and mint leaves into the glass, and muddle thoroughly. You’ll know you’ve muddled your mint well enough when the glass becomes fragrant—don’t rush this step! Next, pour in your bourbon, and give it all a light stir. Add plenty (and I mean plenty) of crushed ice, garnish with your mint sprig, and get to sipping!

What To Serve With A Mint Julep

Bourbon Peach Pie: Double-down on the bourbon vibes by making this sweet pie alongside your glass.

Southern Tomato Pie: If you're a pimento cheese fan, then you're going to go crazy for this savory pie.

Banana Pudding: Banana pudding goes well with just about anything, but I love it alongside this refreshing cocktail.
